S. 597—A Bill To Extend The Breast Cancer Stamp Act For Another Two Years Through 2009

On February 14, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced S. 597, a bill to extend the Breast Cancer Stamp Act for another two years through 2009.

COMMITTEE/SUBCOMMITTE ACTION

On August 1, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs approved by voice vote S. 597, a bill to extend the special postage stamp for breast cancer research through 2009.

FLOOR ACTION

On November 14, the Senate passed by unanimous consent S. 597, a bill to reauthorize the breast cancer research stamp to December 31, 2011. The House companion measure, H.R. 1236, was passed by the House on October 30. The House measure also contains a reporting requirement.

On December 11, the House passed by voice vote S. 597, a bill to reauthorize the breast cancer research stamp to December 31, 2011, adding a reporting requirement before passage. S. 597 passed the Senate on November 14 by unanimous consent. The House companion measure, H.R. 1236, was passed on October 30, and contains the same reporting requirement.

On December 13, the Senate agreed to House amendments (which added a reporting requirement) and passed, by unanimous consent, S. 597, to reauthorize the breast cancer stamp through 2011. The House passed the bill by voice vote on December 11, adding a reporting requirement before passage. S. 597 first passed the Senate (a straight four-year reauthorization) on November 14 by unanimous consent. The House companion measure, H.R. 1236, was passed on October 30, and contains the same reporting requirement.

PRESIDENTIAL ACTION

On December 21, the President signed into law as Public Law 110-150, S. 597, legislation to reauthorize the breast cancer stamp through 2011 and require a new annual reporting requirement on how the funds were spent.
