S. 2488—The Openness Promotes Effectiveness in our National Government Act of 2007

On December 14, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced S. 2488, the Openness Promotes Effectiveness in our National Government Act of 2007.

FLOOR ACTION

On December 14 and 18, respectively, the Senate passed by unanimous consent and the House passed by voice vote S. 2488, the Openness Promotes Effectiveness in our National Government Act of 2007, which would improve access to public documents through the Freedom of Information Act. The Senate passed another version (S. 849) by unanimous consent on August 3. S. 2488 is the compromise version to respond to concerns expressed by the House. H.R. 1309, the House bill, passed by a vote of 308-117 on March 14.

PRESIDENTIAL ACTION

On December 31, the President signed into law as Public Law 110-175, S. 2488, the Openness Promotes Effectiveness in our National Government Act of 2007, to improve access to public documents through the Freedom of Information Act.
