S. 3324—The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education for the 21st Century Act of 2008

On July 24, 2008, Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) introduced S. 3324, the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education for the 21st Century Act of 2008. The bill would create a federally chartered, but private, corporation to be known as the National Council for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education (STEM Council), for the purpose of coordinating and facilitating information about STEM education among state, local, and private entities. The bill would also establish within the National Science and Technology Council a standing committee on STEM education, to be composed of representatives of all of the Federal agencies involved in STEM education. NIH would be included on this committee. The committee would be responsible for coordinating federal activities and research related to STEM education.
