S. 2999—The Access to Cancer Clinical Trials Act of 2008

On May 8, 2008, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced S. 2999, the Access to Cancer Clinical Trials Act of 2008. The bill would amend the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, and the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to require group and individual health insurance coverage and group health plans to provide coverage for individuals participating in approved cancer clinical trials. S. 2999 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP). The House companion measure, H.R. 2676, was introduced by Representative Deborah Pryce (D-OH) on June 12, 2007.
