S. 2148—The Senior Executive Service Diversity Assurance Act

On October 4, Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI) introduced, respectively, the Senior Executive Service Diversity Assurance Act. The bill would establish the Senior Executive Service Resource Office within the Office of Personnel Management to improve the management of the SES and to increase diversity in the Service. The bill would also establish one or more SES evaluation panels within each Department of the Federal government. These panels must be comprised of 3 members, of whom at least one must be a woman and one other must be a member of a racial or ethnic minority group. The panels would review qualifications of candidates and certify the names of candidates who are best qualified for a position. S. 2148 was referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and governmental Affair.
