S. 1810—The Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act

On July 18, Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) introduced S. 1810, the Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act. The bill would authorize the Secretary of HHS, acting through the Directors of NIH, CDC, or HRSA to make awards to States and other entities for the purpose of collecting and disseminating current “evidence-based” information and coordinating the provision of support services to patients receiving a positive test diagnosis for Down Syndrome or other conditions diagnosed prenatally or postnatally. S. 1810 was referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).

COMMITTEE ACTIONS

On February 27, the Senate HELP Committee (Senator Edward Kennedy [D-MA], Chair) reported as an amendment in the nature of a substitute S. 1810, the Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act.
