S. 1696—The FY2008 Interior and the Environment Appropriations Bill

On June 19, 2007, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Environment (Senator Dianne Feinstein [D-CA], Chairman) marked up the FY2008 Interior and the Environment Appropriations bill. The $27.2 billion draft bill would provide $745 million (3 percent) more than 2007 and 6 percent more than requested. The allocation is $448 million less than the House bill, however. Included in this measure is $78,434,000, for NIEHS to carry out activities set forth in section 311(a) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, as amended, and section 126(g) of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986. On May 23, 2007, the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee (Representative Norm Dicks [D-WA], Chairman) marked up the FY2008 appropriations bill and on June 7, H.R. 2643 was reported from full Committee. This bill includes $79,117,000 for NIEHS. Full committee mark up in the Senate is scheduled for June 21, 2007.
