H. R. 6568 —The Tom Lantos Pulmonary Hypertension Research and Education Act of 2008

On July 22, 2008, Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX) introduced H.R. 6568, the Tom Lantos Pulmonary Hypertension Research and Education Act of 2008. The legislation includes a sense of the Congress that would encourage NIH and NHLBI to "continue aggressive work on pulmonary hypertension" and NHLBI "should continue research to expand the understanding the causes of, and to find a cure for, pulmonary hypertension." Finally, H.R. 6568 contains numerous reporting requirements, including a requirement that the Secretary include information about the status of pulmonary hypertension research at the NIH in the biennial report under section 403 of the PHS Act. Provisions are also included that target relevant activities of CDC and HRSA. H.R. 6568 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
