H. R. 6047 —Early Access to Treatment Act

On May 14, 2008, Representative Walter Jones (R-NC), introduced the Early Access to Treatment Act. The legislation would amend the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require the Secretary of HHS to approve, within 30 days of an application submission, access for patients to new drugs under clinical investigation for serious or life-threatening conditions when there are no comparable or satisfactory drugs available. H.R. 6047 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
