H. R. 5781 —The Federal Employee Paid Parental Leave Act of 2008

On April 14, 2008, Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced H.R. 5781, the Federal Employee Paid Parental Leave Act of 2008. The bill would provide for four weeks of paid parental leave for Federal employees and would also allow the use of up to eight additional weeks of accrued sick leave. H.R. 5781 was referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

COMMITTEE/SUBCOMMITTE ACTION

April 15, 2008 — The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce, Post Office and the District of Columbia approved H.R. 5781 by a vote of 7 to 3.

April 16, 2008 — The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (Representative Henry Waxman [D-CA], Chairman) approved H.R. 5781 by a vote of 21 to 10.

FLOOR ACTION

June 19, 2008 – The House passed H.R. 5781, by a vote of 278-146
