H.R. 864—The Sober Truth on Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act

On February 16, Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) introduced H.R. 864, the Sober Truth on Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act. The bill would establish the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking, of which NIAAA would be a member; continue funding for a media campaign; and encourage research aimed at finding strategies to address the problem. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

FLOOR ACTION

On November 14, the House passed by voice vote, H.R. 864, the Sober Truth on Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act.

On December 9, both chambers of Congress passed H.R. 864, the STOP Underage Drinking Act. The bill, which was introduced by Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (R-CA), authorizes grants to reduce the rate of underage alcohol use and binge drinking among students at institutions of higher education, data collection to identify the scope of the problem and research into the effects of alcohol on developing brains.
