Also testifying were Rear Admiral Ann Schuchat, M.D., Interim Deputy Director, Science and Public Health Program, CDC; Paul Jarris, M.D., Executive Director, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials; and John Clifford, M.D., Deputy Administrator, National Animal Health and Policy Program, USDA. This hearing also marked the first time Senator Arlen Specter, formerly the Ranking Minority Member of this Subcommittee, has attended a hearing before this Subcommittee as a Democrat, having only announced hours, before his intention to switch parties for purposes of the Pennsylvania Senate election.
