House Committee on Government Holds Hearing on “Review of This Year’s Flu Season: Does Our Public Health System Need a Shot in the Arm?”

On February 12, 2004, the House Committee on Government Reform (Representative Tom Davis, [R- VA], Chairman] held a hearing to assess the current flu season and public health readiness to respond to infectious disease outbreaks, whether naturally occurring or as the result of bioterrorism. Dr. Julie Gerberding, Director of CDC; and Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, Director of NIAID, NIH, testified on activities of their respective agencies. Also testifying was Dr. Jan Heinrich, U.S. General Accounting Office, who provided an assessment of state-wide readiness.
