Session I - P.L. 107-56  Provide Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (PATRIOT) Act of 2001

On October 26, 2001, the President signed into law H.R. 3162, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001. This legislation amends a number of titles of the United States Code in an effort to expand the Nation's ability to intercept and thwart terrorist threats. Provisions relevant to NIH include expansion of the biological weapons statute and expansion of the authorities related to wire, oral and electronic communications.
